Welcome to Cafe Ami

Our story

We are a locally owned and operated concept born in the late 1980s from a desire to develop a “friendly” coffee house where patrons are encouraged to linger and enjoy their coffee and fresh food in a welcoming environment – a premise based on the simple fact that the coffee “experience” cannot be rushed; it is meant to be savoured and enjoyed with friends (Cafe “Ami”).

From crop to cup

What’s unique about us is our level of ethical commitment – we are an active participant from crop to cup in order to ensure maximum bean quality and optimum brewing conditions; our food selections are prepared fresh every day and we strive to reduce our environmental footprint by reducing, re-using and recycling wherever possible.

Café Ami VGH is located in the Jim Pattison Pavilion at Vancouver General Hospital. Cafe Ami UBC is located in the DM Centre for Brain Health (building connected to UBC Hospital).  We also operate Petit Ami in the Granville Island Public Market, which specializes in a variety of direct trade/small lot farm specialty arabica coffee from around the world.

Philanthropy

We are very proud of our support to the VGH & UBC Foundation, along with many other volunteer community based health care initiatives associated with VGH & UBC Hospitals.  Our primary support, currently, has been directed towards Haematology Research along with our long standing participation in the annual VGH Night of a Thousand Stars Gala Dinner that directly supports many areas within VGH & UBC Hospitals.
